Indian Institute of Science Education and Research 

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (i.e., I.I.E.R.) is the premier science institute of India. The institute is located in Kolkata, Pune, Mohali, Bhopal and Thiruvananthapuram. These institutes have been set up to promote science research in India. This Institute is sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource, Government of India. Every I.S. E.R. 500 crore rupees have been allocated for the first 5 years of financial outlay. At the moment, all the IIS E.R. Operating from temporary campuses. From Kolkata campus of IIT Kharagpur campus adjacent to the Pune campus National Chemistry Laboratory, Mohali Complex, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Public Administration, Chandigarh, Bhopal campus, I. T.I. Relief Gas Building and Thiruvananthapuram campus are being run by Engineering College, Trivandrum.

1.Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata 

IISER support for exam

IISER Kolkata was functioning from the temporary campus at Mohanpur, a temporary arrangement within the campus of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya previously and now almost all the labs have been shifted to its permanent campus, over 250 acres (1.0 km2) of land at Haringhata, Kalyani near Kolkata.

2.Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune 

IISER Pune has started functioning from the National Chemical Laboratory Pune campus. Its campus has mostly been developed. The labs, lecture hall complexes, main buildings, and the hostels have been set up in the permanent campus.
3.Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali 

IISER MOhali has started functioning from the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration complex in Sector 26 Chandigarh. The foundation stone for its permanent campus was laid in September 2006 by the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh. It started functioning at its permanent campus at Sector 81, Mohali.
4.Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal 

IISER Bhopal started functioning from the ITI Gas Rahat Building Govindpura Bhopal. The Institute was moved to its main campus in Bhauri in August 2012.
5.Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram 
IISER Thiruvananthapuram started functioning recently from its own permanent campus at Vithura, which is 40 km from Thiruvananthapuram city. Earlier, it was functioning from a temporary campus at the College of Engineering, Trivandrum.
6.Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Tirupati 

IISER Tirupati started functioning from a transient campus at Mangalam, Tirupati about 7km from the city in 2015. The permanent campus has been planned to be constructed at Yerpedu, about a half-an-hour away from the city in a plot of 250 acres (1 sq.km) near the foothills of the Saptagiri ranges and Phase-1 of the construction is to expected to be completed by 2019.

7.Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Berhampur

IISER Berhampur commenced in Odisha in 2016. It is functioning from a transit campus from 2016.


IISER Eligibility Criteria 

As of May 2019, IISERs admit 1481 students in total each year for their dual degree BS-MS Program.  For each channel of admission below, additional cut-off criteria of respective IISERs are applicable. Candidates satisfying any of the following criteria are eligible for applying:
  • KVPY channel: Candidates having a valid KVPY fellowship.
  • JEE (Advanced) channel: Candidates in General category securing a rank within 10000 in the Common Rank List (CRL) of the JEE Advanced are eligible to apply. For candidates belonging to reservedcategory (OBC Non-Creamy Layer, SC, ST, Persons with Disability (PD)), their category rank should be within 10000.

State and Central Boards Channel (SCB): Candidates who have passed (10+2) level with science stream with marks equal to or above the cut-off marks for their respective boards are eligible to apply for the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT). For the candidates belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer of the Other Backward Classes (OBCNC) and Persons with Disability (PD) categories, there is a 5% relaxation. The cut-off percentage for the Scheduled Castes (SC), the Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Kashmiri Migrants (KM) candidates is 55% in (10+2) level for all boards. It is mandatory for the candidates applying through SCB channel to appear in the IAT. On the basis of the cut-off marks of IAT for each IISER (which are kept strictly confidential, candidates are allotted IISERs by the Joint Admissions Committee (JAC) through a common admissions portal.
